Lake Mapping & Bathymetry
Bathymetry, or the measurement of depth of water, is an important measurement in achieving your waterway goals. Using a state-of-the-art GPS equipped sonar unit, we take readings at various positions within your pond or lake. Measuring depth, bottom hardness, and vegetation density, we scan the bottom of your waterway with a precision sonar unit and “geotag” these measurements with their corresponding latitude and longitude. From there, the geotagged measurements are spatially processed with Geographic Information System (GIS) software. The end result: a cutting edge glimpse below the surface of the water.
Whether the goal is fisheries management, aeration system design, our stormwater system inspection, having an accurate and insightful look at the underwater topography of your waterway leads to better management decisions. If your waterway is preforming poorly, a bathymetric survey can be a critical tool in finding the proper solution.
For example, if a stratification profile shows your waterway to be stratified, we’ll run a bathymetric survey before designing an aeration system. Once we understand the underwater topography, the aeration system can be properly planed out to ensure maximum results. The bathymetry survey will accurately depict the depths and shallows of your waterway, so aerator placement can be done properly.
“What should I plant ?”
Aquascaping a shoreline with native plants can improve water quality by absorbing runoff nutrients. The plants can also reduce erosion, provide habitat, and be aesthetically pleasing.
